Haven Protocol — Psychological Techno-Thriller Novella | Ezekiel Lara
Become a Founding Reader

A silent, unbroken descent into the Haven campus at night, driven by scrolling. The view begins on an elevated walkway above a long reflecting pool, the coastline and a full moon beyond. The camera descends to a terrace table holding a half-finished drink, an unfinished pastry and an overturned medicine bottle, then continues out over the terrace and down to the pool deck, passing an empty lounge chair with a towel and a book left on it. It drops to the water and glides the length of the pool, where the moon sits low between two cypress trees. Finally it crosses the water and enters a glass-walled lounge, coming to rest before an empty sectional couch with candles still lit, the moon centred in the open doors. No people appear at any point. There is no spoken dialogue and no sound.

01 — Arrival

A place designed to make you lower your guard.

Haven sits beyond the noise of the mainland, surrounded by dark water, warm light, and complete discretion. Guests arrive exhausted. Haven promises to return them restored.

Everyone is allowed to enter.

Leaving is more complicated.

02 — The Protocol

Recovery is easier when every decision is made for you.

Meals arrive at the correct time. Medication is adjusted before symptoms appear. Staff remember conversations the guests do not.

Active

Observe

Every routine becomes data.

Active

Adjust

Every discomfort receives an answer.

Active

Reassure

Every concern is treated as resistance.

At Haven, compliance feels remarkably similar to comfort.

03 — The Empty Chair

Someone was here a moment ago.

A robe left hanging. A book placed face-down. No shoes. No drink. No explanation.

Haven records every departure.

There is no record of this one.

04 — Inside Haven

The doors are open.

That does not mean you are free.

Haven does not rely on locked rooms or armed guards. It offers certainty, relief, and belonging until the world outside begins to feel dangerous.

The safest prison is the one its occupants are afraid to leave.

She had begun keeping a list of the things the staff knew without being told. It was not a long list. It was the wrong kind of short.
